My friend Jilli G asked me to burn her some twang. i'd been harping on about Lucinda Williams, how she's categorized as "country" but she'll never get airplay on country radio for her lyrics are so raw and real and her music runs the gamut from twang to hardcore rock. So, after several tries, I finally came up w/ the following mix for Jilli G - I hope she likes it, as I'm LOVING it!

Joy - LUCINDA WILLIAMS
I'm A Long Gone Daddy - THE THE
Love Me Like A Man - BONNIE RAITT
44 Stories - ROSANNE CASH
Time in Babylon - EMMYLOU HARRIS
Are You Down - LUCINDA

Scarlover - MARIA MCKEE
Down To Zero - BETTYE LAVETTE
Righteously - LUCINDA
Honky Tonkin' - THE THE
Take My Body - ROSANNE
'Cause Cheap Is How I Feel - COWBOY JUNKIES
You Gotta Sin To Get Saved - MARIA

thank you rosanne cash...

Baptise her with bitter tears
'til she knows your pain is real;
Next time you see her on her knees
don't try to make a deal.
Don't stare her into silence
with some frozen point of view.
She's got 44 stories
she wants to tell them all to you.

Welcome her to all your fears
and trust that she will cope.
Give her one day of satisfaction
for a thousand years of hope.
Don't turn to dry your eyes
and lose your chance to look;
She's got 44 stories
she wants to write them in a book.

Wait until your memory clears
then welcome her to roam
the desert of her misspent years
that led you to her home.

Don't hold her up to sunlight
'cause she'll melt into the blue.
Don't make her shout through the static
if you want to hear the truth.

She's got 44 stories
She's got 44 stories
She's got 44 stories
she wants to tell them all to you.

thank you don henley...

Well baby, there you stand
With your little head, down in your hand
Oh, my God, you can't believe it's happening
again
Your baby's gone, and you're all alone
and it looks like the end.
And you're back out on the street.
And you're tryin' to remember.
How will you start it over?
You don't know you can.
You don't care much for a stranger's touch,
But you can't hold your man.
You never thought you'd be alone this far
down the line
And I know what's been on your mind
You're afraid it's all been wasted time
The autumn leaves have got you thinking
about the first time that you fell
You didn't love the boy too much, no, no
you just loved the boy to well, Farewell
So you live from day to day, and you dream
about tomorrow, oh.
And the hours go by like minutes
and the shadows come to stay
So you take a little something to
make them go away
And I could have done so many things, baby
If I could only stop my mind from wondrin' what
I left behind and from worrying 'bout theis wasted time
Ooh, another love has come and gone
Ooh, and the years keep rushing on
I remeber what you told me before you went out on your own:
"Sometimes to keep it together, we got to leave it alone."
So you can get on with your search, baby, and I can
get on with mine
And maybe someday we will find , that it wasn't really
wasted time
Mm,hm
